Training

Sutton Community Transport provide training for  the minibus driver awareness scheme (MIDAS).

All training is held in our customised new  training room at our depot in Jessops Way.

Light refreshments are provided at the start of the course but for those who stay to do the accessible section in the afternoon, you will need to bring your own lunch as there are no facilities within our area to get food.

The course starts promptly at 09:00 and consists of two sections. Standard and Accessible.

All drivers do a half day theory session followed by a multiple choice theory assessment. Drivers of accessible mini-buses do an additional half day theory and practical session, followed by a multiple choice theory assessment plus a practical assessment of their ability to use the passenger lift and how to secure wheelchairs into the mini-bus using the correct restraints.

The Standard course is aimed at drivers of a fully seated mini-bus used mainly for schools and colleges. It teaches you how to drive for Safety and Economy, defensive driving , walk-round checks, passenger safety & evacuation procedures.

The Accessible course is aimed to teach drivers of mini-buses fitted with passenger lifts, how to use the passenger lift following the correct procedure. You will also be shown how to safely secure wheelchairs in the bus using the correct restraints.

The course is finalised with an on road driving assesment which you can book with the trainer at the end of the course, at a time to suit you.

Once all elements are passed, you will be issued with your MiDAS certificate on the day, which will last for 4 years.

The cost for MiDAS training is £65 for the Standard Course and £94 for the accessible course. Both couses do not include VAT.
